SAVANNAH, GEORGIA (BRITISH OCCUPATION). 29 December 1778–11 July 1782. The town of Savannah, Georgia, was occupied by the British for three and one-half years. Except for the joint French-American effort to recapture the city in 1779, the British rule was largely peaceful.
