pro-Boer

pro-Boer was the misleading name given to those who opposed the government's policy of fighting the Boer war of 1899–1902. Few of them actually sympathized with their country's enemies. Most were either old-fashioned Gladstonian Liberals, or socialists. Some were physically assaulted by jingoists. Lloyd George and J. A. Hobson both forged their reputations as pro-Boers.
