tracheophyte Any plant that has elaborate tissues, including vascular tissue; a conspicuous sporophyte generation; and complex leaves with waterproof cuticles. Tracheophytes include plants of the phyla Psilophyta, Lycophyta, Sphenophyta, Filicinophyta, Coniferophyta, and Anthophyta. In traditional classification systems these were regarded as classes of the division Tracheophyta.

tracheophyte In certain classification systems, any vascular plant of the phylum Tracheophyta. Within this phylum are: psilopsids (leafless, rootless primitive forms, such as whisk fern); sphenopsids (such as horsetail); lycopsids (such as club moss); pteropsids (such as fern); gymnosperms and angiosperms.
