tracheophyte Any plant that has elaborate tissues, including vascular tissue; a conspicuous sporophyte generation; and complex leaves with waterproof cuticles. Tracheophytes include plants of the phyla Psilophyta, Lycophyta, Sphenophyta, Filicinophyta, Coniferophyta, and Anthophyta. In traditional classification systems these were regarded as classes of the division Tracheophyta.
