Honthorst, Gerard
Honthorst, Gerard (1590–1656) Dutch painter. Influenced by Caravaggio, Honthorst was skilled in depicting dramatic candle-lit interiors, notably Samson and Delilah (c.1620). He made his name, however, after abandoning the Caravaggesque style, becoming a successful portrait painter.
