Brandt, Bill (1904–83) British photographer, b. Germany. He assisted Man Ray in Paris (1929–30), before returning to London where he developed a reputation as a social commentator, as shown in his collection of photographs The English at Home (1936). During World War II, he documented life through the Blitz in a series of atmospheric wartime landscapes. He is perhaps better known for his nudes, many of which can be found in his book Perspective of Nudes (1961).
