William H. Andrews/HAWS Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist graduating high school seniors and adults in their studies. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduating high school seniors or adults wishing to continue in post-secondary education; must be residents living in a property owned or managed by HAWS. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the committee's review of applications.

Chester Arzell and Helen Miller Montgomery Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To graduating high school seniors from Stokes County public high schools. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must have a minimum, cumulative, unweighted GPA of 2.0; participate in community service; demonstrate good character; participate in extracurricular activities; demonstrate financial need. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

F.A. and Charlotte Blount Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist graduating high school students of For-syth County. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduating Forsyth County high school students who will pursue a baccalaureate degree at an accredited college or university. Criteria: Preference will be given to minority students.

Funds Avail.: $750. To Apply: Applicants must submit a completed application form; grade transcript through first semester of the 12th grade; and one recommendation. Deadline: March 31. Contact: Winston-Salem Foundation at the above address (see entry 7418).

Sam L. Booke, Sr. Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To encourage students to pursue careers in the Mathematics field. Focus: Mathematics and mathematical sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduating seniors from public high schools in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School; must demonstrate interest in Mathematics. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on: evidence of excellence in Mathematics through both course selection and grades; intent to pursue a career in Mathematics; potential to achieve career goal; and academic excellence.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants must complete online application form. Applicants must also submit one teacher recommendation from math teacher; and official high school grade transcript (through at least first semester of the 12th grade and including SAT scores and class rank). Tien Bui Memorial Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist graduating high school seniors who have attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ Career Center. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must: demonstrate a minimum cumulative GPAof 3.5; must have strong SAT scores and challenging academic course selection as a graduating high school senior; must demonstrate financial need (award not restricted to lowest family income); have attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ Career Center during their high school and successfully completed either advanced placement in Math or Science. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the committee's review of application materials.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Scholarship applications are available online. Applicants must complete the Tien Bui Memorial Scholarship application; must submit grade transcript through 1st semester of 12th grade; and submit letter of acceptance from NCSU that specifies enrollment in the College of Engineering. Wes Burton Memorial Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist graduating high school seniors of Mt. Tabor High School. Focus: Mathematics and mathematical science; Computer and information sciences; Business administration; Engineering. Qualif.: Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5; must demonstrate community and school service; must have an intent to pursue a career in Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration, or Engineering; demonstrate financial need (award is not restricted to lowest family incomes). Criteria: Award is given based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Student must complete the application in its entirety and include supplemental items and information requested in the various sections of the application. The supplemental items include: an interview with the Foundation; a grade transcript; a resume or list of student activities; one letter of recommendation from a math teacher, business teacher, or computer science teacher. Andrew Blake Clark Memorial Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide college scholarships to worthy graduating high school seniors at Mt. Tabor High School. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be gradauting seniors at Mt. Tabor High School. Criteria: Selection will be based on the academic promise, financial need, and school and/or community leadership.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Students interested in being considered for the scholarship award should submit the following to Stan Huck in the Mt. Tabor Guidance Office: transcript of high school courses through 1st semester 12th grade; high school resume; personal statement describing accomplishments and future plans. Deadline: April 4. Elmer and Rosa Lee Collins Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide a college scholarship to a worthy graduating high school senior from a Forsyth County high school. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must demonstrate character and purpose as evidenced in school, community, church, and work activities; academic success by achieving a minimum, unweighted, cumulative GPA of 3.5 with strong course selection; financial need (however, the scholarship is not restricted to lower family incomes); and must be US citizens. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $2,500. To Apply: Eligible high school seniors may complete an application online. Applicants are responsible for submitting the completed application and all supplemental items to the Foundation. Supplemental items include: grade transcript through the 1st semester of the 12th grade; one recommendation from a teacher, guidance couselor, coach, principal, employer, clergy, or other community leader who has supervised, counseled or coached applicant in some capacity. Lloyd E. and Rachel S. Collins Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To award scholarships to worthy graduating high school seniors form North, South, and West Stokes High Schools who will attend an accredited two or four-year college or university. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, participate in community service, demonstrate good character, participate in extracurricular activities, demonstrate financial need. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applications for the scholarship are available in the guidance offices of the three Stokes County high schools. Deadline: April 1.

D.C. Cornelius Memorial Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To award scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Forbush High School. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must demonstrate, character, leadership, compassion for all people and dedication to service of community and school. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.8. Demonstration of financial need is preferred. Applicants must be a US citizen. Criteria: Award is given based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Scholarship applications will be available in the guidance office at Forbush High School and also online. Students must complete the application in its entirety; include grade transcripts with the application at time of submittal; and include recommendations with the application. Deadline: April 15. Serena D. Dalton Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial aid for needy students. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must have adjusted gross income within the table guidelines (table is based on up to 330% above the federal poverty level); be a resident of Forsyth County; must have achieved a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.0; must be enrolled a minimum of six credit hours/semester during the academic year in a program leading to a first time two or four year degree, certificate, or diploma from an accredited institution which participates in the federal student aid program; must be a US citizen. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: The following items are required to complete the application process: Submittal of completed application and signed signature page; Signed copy of parents’/guardians’/family's previous year's 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ income tax return (for dependent students); Signed copy of applicant's previous year's tax return; Official high school grade transcript through at least 1st semester of the 12th grade or year-end college grade transcript, whichever is the most recent (request from the school's Registrar and forward to the Foundation); Copy of the Student Aid Report if applicant has applied for federal aid; Copy of the financial aid award letter. Dean Prim Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide travel and college scholarships to high school juniors and seniors. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Qualified candidates must be: at least 16 years of age; a high school junior or high school senior; must demonstrate excellence in schoolwork as evidenced by course selection and grades (minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0); must participate in extracurricular school activities, community and/or church activities, and school or community athletics; must demonstrate good character and show interest in and concern for being an active member of society; must be committed to traveling and studying in China and have the full support of parent(s) to participate. The scholarship is available to students regardless of race, sex, national, origin, or religion. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $500. To Apply: The Prim scholarship application is on The Winston-Salem Foundation's web site. It is the student's responsibility to make sure that, along with submittal for the electronic application completed in its entirety, all supplemental materials are in the office of The Winston-Salem Foundation by the deadline. Supplemental materials include: a grade transcript, through 10th grade for juniors and 11th grade for seniors; two recommendations as described in the application; a recent photograph (include student's name on back of photo); Deadline: October 31. Wade and Marcelene Duncan Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: to provide scholarships to worthy high school seniors graduating from either North Stokes or South Stokes High schools. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicant must be a graduating senior from either North Stokes or South Stokes High School who will attend an accredited four-year educational institution. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, participate in community service, participate in athletics and be generally well-rounded. Criteria: The applications will be reviewed by the Wade and Marcelene Duncan Scholarship Fund Committee at each high school. Upon determination of the scholarship recipient each year, the selection committee will notify The Winston-Salem Foundation of that individual's name, address, college of choice, social security number, and telephone number.

Funds Avail.: $250. To Apply: Applications and all required materials must be delivered to your high school guidance office. Students should contact the guidance office at North Stokes High School or South Stokes High School to request applications. Applications are also available online. Deadline: March 31. Virginia Elizabeth and Alma Vane Taylor Student Nurse Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: Provides scholarships for N.C. residents pursuing two and four-year Nursing degrees at accredited N.C. colleges. Focus: Nursing. Qualif.: Applicants must: be accepted into an accredited North Carolina school of nursing program, as verified by an acceptance letter; have a family adjusted gross income that does not exceed $80,000; have a high school/college cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Preference will be given to those seeking first time associate or baccalaureate degrees; those with masters degrees in any area will be ineligible to apply. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $1,200. To Apply: The Winston-Salem Foundation's General Financial Aid Application will be used to apply for this scholarship. The General Financial Aid Application is available online or you may request an application to the Foundation's Student Aid Committee. Deadline: March 31. Forsyth County Nursing Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide educational need-based scholarships for Forsyth County residents seeking nursing degrees at accredited two year and four year colleges and who will, upon completing a degree, practice nursing in Forsyth County, N.C. Preference will be given to those seeking first-time associate or baccalaureate nursing degree. Focus: Nursing. Qualif.: Applicants must have a family adjusted gross income within the table guidelines (table is based on up to 330% above the federal poverty level); have achieved a current cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0; be a US citizen; be a child of a living or deceased Vietnam veteran; be a Forsyth County N.C. resident; and provide a letter of acceptance into a nursing program. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: The following items are required to complete the application process: Submittal of completed application and signed signature page; Signed copy of parents’/guardians’/family's previous year's 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ income tax return (for dependent students); Signed copy of applicant's previous year's tax return; Official high school grade transcript through at least 1st semester of the 12th grade or college grade transcript, whichever is the most recent (request from the school's Registrar and forward to the Foundation); Copy of the Student Aid Report if applicant has applied for federal aid; Copy of the financial aid award letter. Denise Franklin Journalism Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide a merit scholarship to high school senior planning to pursue a career in journalism. Focus: Journalism. Qualif.: Students must have a minimum, un weighted, grade point average of 3.0. Applicants should have a minimum of two years involvement in a journalism project or involvement in two different types of journalistic media. Students of color with a strong academic record and desire to pursue a career in journalism are encouraged to apply. Applicant must be a US citizen. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $500. To Apply: Applicants must complete and submit an application online at the Foundation's Web site. In addition to submittal of the application, applicants must also provide the following to be considered: Provide a letter of recommendation from a current journalism instructor; Submit up to three samples of journalism work such as published newspaper articles, audio or videotapes, a website or a photo essay (samples will not be returned); High school grade transcript through first semester, 12th grade. Gaddy Student Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To give priority consideration to those students who will attend Davidson College or Wake Forest University. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: This renewable scholarship seeks to identify those students: who are graduating high school seniors from R.J. Reynolds High School; who demonstrate academic promise; who are US citizens; who have participated as athletes or in support positions in high school athletics (broad consideration); who have financial need (broad consideration given - not restricted to lower family incomes). Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Students must provide the following: A completed application; grade transcript through 1st semester, 12th grade; one recommendation as described in the application guidelines. Schedule an interview, if so advised. Deadline: March 31.

Garden Club Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Council (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial support for educational opportunities to legal residents of North Carolina who will attend a two and/or four year college and have been accepted into the Horticulture Technology or Landscape Architecture curriculums at Forsyth Technical Community College or other accredited post-secondary schools in North Carolina. Focus: Horticulture; Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must demonstrate academic potential; financial need; full-time attendance (minimum of 12 credit hours/semester); pursuit of undergraduate associate or baccalaureate degree (first-time degrees preferred); must be US citizens. The scholarship is renewable for a second consecutive year if student maintains a cumulative college GPA of 2.0, continues full-time enrollment and continues in horticulture or landscape architecture; otherwise, scholarship is forfeited. Available to traditional and non-traditional age students. Criteria: Decisions are made by The Winston-Salem Foundation's Student Aid Committee. Individual will be selected on a first come, first served basis but must meet all qualifications. Number and size of scholarship(s) will depend on available income.

John L. Gilmer Educational Grants (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide scholarships to the graduating high school seniors from accredited public, private, or parochial schools, who will attend accredited higher education institutions seeking undergraduate degrees. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be Forsyth County residents; be graduating high school seniors; have achieved a minimum, unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0; have a family adjusted gross income not exceeding $80,000. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Eligible high school seniors may complete an application online. Applicants are responsible for submitting the completed application and all supplemental items, except the family federal tax return, to the Foundation by March 31. The family federal tax return must be submitted by April 15. Supplemental items include: Grade transcript through the 1st semester of the 12th grade; Family federal tax return from last year; An interview if so advised. John L. Gilmer Merit Based Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide scholarships to the graduating high school seniors from accredited public, private, or parochial schools, who will attend accredited higher education institutions seeking undergraduate degrees. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be Forsyth County residents; graduating high school seniors; must have achieved a minimum, unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.5. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria. Awards are renewable for three consecutive years as long as recipients maintain full-time enrollment and a cumulative minimum college GPA of 2.75, as ascertained by academic year-end grade transcript. An official grade transcript is required each summer. Any student failing to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 at current academic year end may be considered again for renewal at the end of the next academic year, with overall consideration for renewal not exceeding the time frame of the scholarship.

Qualif.: Applicants must: attend an accredited four-year college or university in North Carolina; be a resident of Forsyth County; have achieved a current cumulative, unweighted GPA of at least 3.5; demonstrate significant promise in leadership, community service, and school service; be US citizens; demonstrate financial need, (award not restricted to lowest family incomes); be graduating high school seniors. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Claude B. Hart Memorial Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To award scholarship to worthy graduating high school seniors from Elkin High School who are US citizens. Focus: Mathematics and mathematical sciences; Engineering. Qualif.: Applicants must demonstrate significant promise in academics, leadership, community service and school service and intend to major in mathematics (accounting, computer science, business administration) and/or engineering (mechanical, civil, chemical, etc.) in college. Demonstration of financial need is preferred, but award is not restricted to lowest family incomes. Renewal of the award after the first year will require that the student be a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited four-year institution, maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, and continue to major in mathematics or engineering. Criteria: Selection will be based on the committee's criteria.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Scholarship applications will be provided in the guidance office at Elkin High School. Student must complete the application, requested transcripts, and financial information before being considered by the Elkin High School Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee will submit up to 5 candidates to The Winston-Salem Foundation for review by the Elkin Advisory Committee or its appointed subcommittee. Oliver Joel and Ellen Pell Denny Healthcare Scholarship Fund (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide an award to a graduating high school student from a Forsyth County school who displays the traits of athletic excellence, academic achievement, leadership, and social responsibility. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: The renewable scholarship seeks to identify students who exhibit the following qualities in equal measure: athletic excellence the student must have excelled in at least one varsity sport; social responsibility -the student must have participated in at least one extracurricular or community activity; academic success - the student must have a minimum, unweighted high school cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, as of the 1st semester of the 12th grade and be ranked in the top 25% of the senior class; leadership - the student must possess qualities that exhibit a willingness to “go the extra mile”. Recipients receiving renewal awards must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and full time enrollment of at least 12 hours each semester at accredited four-year institutions. Nell and Spencer Waggoner Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To award merit-based scholarships to worthy graduating high school seniors in Forsyth County who intend to pursue baccalaureate degrees at accredited universities and colleges. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Preference is given to students who: demonstrate evidence of excellence through course selection and academic achievement with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (D's are undesirable in any coursework in grades 9-12); outstanding community and school leadership; demonstrate community service and/or school service and concern for being a contributing member of society (work experience recognized for those who have less community involvement due to work obligations). The scholarships are for four consecutive years, provided requirements for renewal are met. Renewing recipients must provide an official academic year-end grade transcript to the Foundation each year.
