Description:

Independent Roman Catholic, comprehensive, coed. Awards associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees. Founded 1935. Setting: 33-acre urban campus. Endowment: $16 million. Educational spending 2003-04: $2487 per student. Total enrollment: 5,206. Faculty: 343 (128 full-time, 215 part-time). Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 18:1. 2,321 applied, 74% were admitted. Full-time: 3,279 students, 66% women, 34% men. Part-time: 1,144 students, 65% women, 35% men. 2% from out-of-commonwealth, 100% Hispanic, 19% 25 or older, 4% transferred in. Retention: 77% of full-time freshmen returned the following year. Academic areas with the most degrees conferred: communications/communication technologies; business/marketing; education. Core. Collegiate Environment:

Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper. Social organizations: 18 open to all. Most popular organizations: La Red (personal development center), Student Council, Judo Club, Athletic Association. Major annual events: Welcome Party, Inter-University Athletic Competition. Student services: health clinic, personal-psychological counseling. Campus security: 24-hour patrols. 553 college housing spaces available; 385 were occupied in 2003-04. No special consideration for freshman housing applicants. Options: men-only, women-only housing available. Maria Teresa Guevara Library plus 1 other with 430,531 microform titles, 1,525 serials, 67,048 audiovisual materials, an OPAC, and a Web page. Operations spending 2003-04: $697,331. 500 computers available on campus for general student use. A campuswide network can be accessed from off-campus. Staffed computer lab on campus.
