BACUS Scholarships (Graduate, Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide education assistance to students in field of microlithography. Focus: Optical engineering; Optics. Qualif.: Applicants must be student members of SPIE; must be enrolled full-time, undergraduate or graduate students in the field of microlithography emphasizing on optical tooling or semiconductor manufacturing technologies. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on merit, experiences and education level.

Funds Avail.: $4000. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Applicants must submit a completed scholarship application form (available at the website); a 450-word essay; and two letters of recommendation sent separately by the recom-mender. Application materials must not exceed more than ten pages. Deadline: January 11.

Michael Kidger Memorial Scholarships in Optical Design (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide education assistance to a student in optical design. Focus: Optics; Optical engineering. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduate students; must be SPIE members; must be enrolled full-time in an optics, photonics, imaging or optoelectronics program or related discipline at the University of Central Florida. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on merit, experiences and education level.

Funds Avail.: $5000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a completed scholarship application form (available at the website); a 450-word essay; and two letters of recommendation sent separately by the recommender. Application materials must not exceed more than ten pages. Deadline: January 11.

Remarks: Established in honor of Michael John Kidger, a well-respected educator and member of the optical science and engineering community. Contact: scholarships@ spie.org.

Purpose: To promote education in laser technology, engineering, or applications. Focus: Engineering; Technology. Qualif.: Applicants must be student members of SPIE; must be enrolled full-time in an optics photonics imaging or optoelectronics program or related discipline at an accredited school; must be in high school or secondary school, undergraduate or post-secondary school, or graduate school. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on merit, experiences and education level.

Criteria: Applicants are selected based on merit, experiences and education level.

Student Travel Grants (Graduate, Undergraduate/Grant)

Purpose: To supplement travel support for students presenting a paper at any of SPIE's meetings. Focus: Optical engineering; Optics. Qualif.: Applicants must be fulltime student members of SPIE; must be authors of an accepted paper presented at the conference; and must have not received any SPIE funding in the past 12 months. Criteria: The conference chair will indicate if the applicant's paper presentation is necessary to the success of the conference.

Funds Avail.: Covers travel expenses. To Apply: Applicant must submit a student travel grant application form (available at the website); a letter of recommendation from faculty advisor or head department; and a written support from the chair of the conference which the paper will be presented.
