Kermit B. Nash Academic Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To promote educational pursuits of individuals with sickle cell disease. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be individuals with sickle cell disease (individuals with sickle cell trait are not eligible); and must be graduating high school seniors. Criteria: Award is given based on the applicant's GPA, academic achievement, SAT scores, community service, quality of essay, and academic obstacles caused by the disease.

SCDAA Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships (Doctorate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To provide financial support for young investigators conducting research in sickle cell disease. Focus: Specific disease. Qualif.: Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree (MD, PhD or equivalent); must have completed clinical training; must not have more than a total of five years of post-doctoral research experience by the award date; and must be affiliated with a non-profit institution of higher learning or non-profit research facility in the United States. Criteria: Awards will be given based on evidence of the applicant's commitment to a research career in sickle cell disease, quality and originality of the proposed research, and importance of the research to the field.

Funds Avail.: $25,000 ($20,000 salary and $5,000 supplies) per year. To Apply: Applicants must submit three copies of application and research mentor's supporting documents including a letter of commitment and the biographical sketch of the mentor. Deadline: May 1.
