Latin American Educational Foundation Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To award funds to qualified students who have demonstrated a commitment to the Hispanic community. Focus: Hispanic American studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be Colorado residents with Hispanic heritage and/or are actively involved in the Hispanic community; must be accepted in an accredited college, university or vocational school; must at least have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Recipients will be required to fulfill 10 hours of community service during the year of funding. Criteria: Award is given based on the following: academic achievement; financial need; community involvement; letters of recommendation; personal essay; and personal interview of finalists.

Funds Avail.: No specific amount. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form available in the LAEF website; most recent federal income tax returns; a list of community service and extracurricular activities for the previous 2 years including leadership positions held; a one-page essay to include the applicant's interests and career goals; how you anticipate achieving your goals and what has motivated you to pursue higher education; two letters of recommendation on official letterhead (the first letter must come from an educator and the other must come from a community service organization, employer, clergy or coach). Letters should discuss your academic achievements and community service as well as your potential for future success. Qualities such as maturity, motivation, self-confidence, leadership and commitment should be addressed. Deadline: March 1.
