Description:

State-supported, university, coed. Awards bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and first professional degrees. Founded 1957. Setting: 677-acre suburban campus with easy access to Washington, DC. Endowment: $38 million. Research spending 2003-04: $43.5 million. Educational spending 2003-04: $6274 per student. Total enrollment: 28,874. Faculty: 1,846 (974 full-time, 872 part-time).
