To recognize and reward outstanding student films that deal with population issues.
Title of Award: World Population Film/Video Festival Awards Area, Field, or Subject: Demography; Environmental conservation; Environmental science; Filmmaking; Natural resources; Population studies Level of Education for which Award is Granted: Undergraduate Number Awarded: Varies each year; recently, 6 high school and 10 college films received awards. Funds Available: A total of $10,000 in prizes is awarded. Duration: The competition is held annually.
Eligibility Requirements: This program is open to secondary and college students who produce films and videos that explore the connection between population growth, resource consumption, the environment, and the global future. Entries must be submitted in VHS (NTSC) format for preview judging, but they may be any length, originate in any format (film, video, or multimedia), and be any style (documentary, narrative, music video, animation, other). This is an international competition. Deadline for Receipt: June of each year. Additional Information: This competition, first held in 1995, is sponsored by the Sopris Foundation and Population Communications International.
