State-supported, comprehensive, coed. Part of California State University System. Awards bachelor's and master's degrees. Founded 1938. Setting: 1,400-acre urban campus with easy access to Los Angeles. Endowment: $20.5 million. Educational spending 2003-04: $5434 per student. Total enrollment: 19,002. Faculty: 1,012 (556 full-time, 456 part-time). Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 23:1. 12,631 applied, 17% were admitted. Full-time: 14,126 students, 44% women, 56% men. Part-time: 2,829 students, 41% women, 59% men.
