Above and Beyond Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To encourage practicing Teacher Librarians to pursue either a Master's or Doctorate degree in librarian-ship or in a related field. Focus: Library and archival sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be a professional member of the California School Library Association; must be a resident of California with plans to continue working in the school library profession in California upon completion of the graduate program. Criteria: Selection of applicants will be judged based on the criteria of the scholarship selection committee.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Application forms are available online. Applicants must present college transcripts and proof of enrollment in a master's or doctoral program, or proof of pursuing National Board Certification; must submit 500 words describing their professional goals; must provide three letters of recommendation. Application form and requirements must be sent to Above and Beyond Scholarship Committee, California School Library Association, 1001 26th St., Sacramento, CA 95816. Deadline: April 30.

John Blanchard Memorial Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist a school library paraprofessional in obtaining the preparation needed to qualify and serve as a school library media teacher. Focus: Library and archival sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be working or have worked within the last three years in a classified position in the library media field either in a school or at a district or county office; must be enrolled in a college or university working towards a BA, BS, or advanced degree in preparation to become a school library media teacher; must be a resident of California; must be a member of the California School Library Association. Criteria: Selection of applicants will be based on the criteria of the Scholarship committee.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation. Application forms are available online and must be sent to John Blanchard Memorial Scholarship, California School Library Association, 1001 26th St., Sacramento, CA 95816. Deadline: April 30.

Jewels Gardiner Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist Northern California students. Focus: Library and archival sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be enrolled in a Library Media Teacher Credential program. Criteria: Preference will be given to first-time recipients, current CSLA/NS members, and to applicants with teaching experience.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Application forms are available online. Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation. Application form and requirements must be sent to Chair, Jewel Gardiner Memorial Fund, California School Library Association, 1001 26th St., Sacramento, CA 95816. Deadline: August 1 and November 1.

Library Media Teacher Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist individuals seeking preparation leading toward a degree or certification which will qualify the individual to work as a professional in the library media field in a school setting. Focus: Library and archival sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be enrolled in a professional school library media teacher credentialing program or a master's degree program; must be a resident of the area served by the CSLA Southern Section; must be a member of the California School Library Association. Criteria: Selection of applicants will be based on the criteria of the selection committee.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation: (a) must be from a CSLA member; (b) must be from a professor in the library media teacher; (c) must be from a former or current supervisor or a fellow teacher. Application form and requirements must be sent to Pam Oehlman, Southern Section President-Elect, 2033 Volk Ave., Long Beach, CA 90815. Deadline: February 15.

School Library Paraprofessional Scholarships (Graduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist school library paraprofessionals in completing a school library technician/paraprofessional certificate program. Focus: Library and archival sciences. Qualif.: Applicants must be working in a classified position in the library media field, either in a school, district, or County Office of Education; must be enrolled in a two-year paraprofessional program with the goal of becoming a qualified library technician or in a teacher credential program with the ultimate goal of pursuing a Library Media Teacher Services Credential; must be a resident of the area served by the CSLA Southern Section; must be a member of the California School Library Association. Criteria: Selection of applicants will be based on the criteria of the selection committee.

Funds Avail.: $500. To Apply: Application forms are available online. Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation: (a) must be from a professor of the school in which the applicant is enrolled; (b) must be from a CSLA Southern Section member; (c) must be from a former or current supervisor.
