American Academy of Periodontology Educator Scholarships (Postdoctorate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial relief to students intending to pursue a career as a full-time teacher at a U.S. periodontal program upon graduation from a U.S. periodontal postdoctoral training program. Focus: Dentistry. Qualif.: Applicants must be student members of the AAP who have been accepted into or are currently enrolled in a U.S. periodontal postdoctoral training program and who intend to enter full-time teaching in a U.S. program. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on merit and financial need.

Funds Avail.: $50,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form; dental school transcripts; periodontal program transcripts; curriculum vitae; letter of nomination from the periodontal program director or the designated mentor; two letters of recommendation; and essay of approximately 1,000 words which addresses their commitment to education. Deadline: July 1.

American Academy of Periodontology Foundation Education Fellowships (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To support research projects focused on the prevention of periodontitis. Focus: Dentistry. Qualif.: Applicants must be first or second year students of a U.S. periodontal postdoctoral program and must be student members of the American Academy of Periodontology. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $15,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form; proposal for research project focusing on the prevention of periodontitis; dental school and periodontal postdoctoral transcripts; letter of support from the periodontal institution's Program Director; and essay of approximately 750 words in which the applicant discusses their future plans in periodontal education and research. Deadline: May 31.

American Academy of Periodontology Teaching Fellowships (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To support the young periodontal educators' commitment to a career in academia by providing debt relief to qualified applicants. Focus: Dentistry. Qualif.: Applicants must be in the first three years of full-time teaching employment, as defined by the institution, at a U.S. periodontal program or have accepted a full-time faculty position at a U.S. periodontal program. Criteria: Applicants are judged based on personal attributes.

Funds Avail.: $50,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form; dental school transcripts; periodontal program transcripts; curriculum vitae; letter of nomination from the periodontal chair or other appropriate individual from their employing institution; two letters of recommendation; and essay of approximately 1,000 words which addresses their commitment to education. Deadline: July 1.

Abram and Sylvia Chasens Teaching and Research Fellowships (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To encourage periodontal students to enter the teaching field. Focus: Dentistry. Qualif.: Applicants must be periodontal postgraduate students in their third year of a non-military, accredited periodontal post-doctoral training program in the United States who intend to pursue a career in periodontal teaching and research in the United States. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on demonstrated excellence of character and integrity, record of academic and personal achievements, and aptitude for teaching and research.

Funds Avail.: $15,000. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form;

transcript of grades from dental school and postgraduate work; curriculum vitae; personal statement of 750 words that addresses the special qualities they will bring to education, their philosophy of education, research interests, extracurricular and community activities, financial need and career plans; and three letters of reference. Deadline: April 15.

Richard J. Lazzara Fellowships in Advanced Implant Surgery (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To provide educational and clinical experiences that reflect the most current techniques in implant dentistry. Focus: Dentistry. Qualif.: Applicants must be third year students in an accredited periodontal post-doctoral training program in the United States; must be recommended by the students' periodontal program director. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on merit.

Funds Avail.: $50,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form; three letters of recommendation, one letter must be from the periodontal program director, another from a periodontist, and the third from a personal reference; transcript of grades from both dental school and postgraduate work; curriculum vitae; and personal essay. Deadline: February 1.

Bud and Linda Tarrson Fellowships (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to the brightest scientific and clinical minds with demonstrated facility for teaching, and to encourage these individuals to pursue an academic career in periodontology. Focus: Dentistry. Qualif.: Applicants must be either full-time or part-time faculty members at the instructor or assistant level; must be affiliated with a U.S. training institution for 10 years or less; must have the goal of teaching and research in periodontology. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $30,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form; letter of nomination; recommendations; curriculum vitae; and personal statement. Deadline: May 1.

Tarrson Regeneration Scholarships (Postdoctorate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to students doing research in regeneration. Focus: Medical research. Qualif.: Applicants must be students who have been accepted in an accredited U.S. periodontal postdoctoral training program or first-year residents within the first six months of their periodontal postdoctoral training program. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on merit.

Funds Avail.: $37,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a completed Tarrson Regeneration Scholarship application form; a proposal abstract describing their clinical research project relevant to clinical or translational regeneration studies; dental school transcripts; two letters of reference; personal essay; and curriculum vitae. Deadline: July 15.
