Venetian Gothic Revival. Phase of the Gothic Revival that drew on exemplars from Venice, featuring polychrome brickwork, plate-tracery, and elaborately patterned arcades. It was promoted by Street's Brick and Marble in the Middle Ages: Notes of a Tour in the North of Italy (1855) and popularized by Ruskin's Stones of Venice (1851–3).
