Vásquez, Lorenzo
Vásquez, Lorenzo or Vázquez, Lorenzo (1450–before1515). Spanish master-mason and architect responsible for some of the first Renaissance buildings in the Iberian peninsula. He probably contributed to the design of the Quattrocento frontispiece at the College of Santa Cruz, Valladolid (1489–91), the heavily rusticated Medinaceli Palace, Cogolludo, Guadalajara (1492–5—modelled on Quattrocento Florentine prototypes, though with late-Gothic fenestration), and the Mendoza Palace, Guadalajara (before 1507). He probably designed the castle of La Calahorra, Granada (1509–12).
