warm sector A tongue of relatively warm air of tropical or old polar or maritime origin, which appears between colder air masses. Such a tongue occupies the area between the warm and cold fronts in a developing mid-latitude depression. Within the warm sector, pressure, wind, and temperature remain fairly steady. Cloud and precipitation depend on the precise condition of the generally stable air; cloud may be produced from orographic uplift or fog from passage over a cool sea surface.
