binary symmetric channel
binary symmetric channel (BSC) A binary communication channel in which the random errors are such that substitution of a 0 for a 1 occurs with the same probability as substitution of a 1 for a 0. Much of the theory of error-correcting and error-detecting codes assumes a BSC.
