subclavian steal syndrome
subclavian steal syndrome (steel) n. a syndrome produced by proximal narrowing of the subclavian artery, in which blood is diverted to the main artery supplying the arm from smaller branches to the brain when the arm is exercised. This causes loss of consciousness (syncope).
