flight of ideas (flyt) n. accelerated thinking that occurs in manic and hypomanic illness and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Speech is rapid, moving from one topic to another and reflecting casual associations between ideas (which may be linked, for example, by puns or rhymes).
