SIDELIGHTS:

Dean Radin is a scientist who has conducted research into psychic phenomenon for nearly three decades. He has written extensively about his research, including the books The Conscious Universe: The Scientific Truth of Psychic Phenomena, and Entangled Minds: Extrasensory Experiences in a Quantum Reality. In The Conscious Universe, Radin provides "a wonderfully fresh presentation of parapsychology's best data through the careful use of meta-analysis techniques," according to Journal of Parapsychology contributor Richard Broughton. Organized into sections titled Motivation, Evidence, Understanding, and Implications, the book covers some of the basic issues concerned with parapsychology, the different classes of psychic phenomena, research into psychic phenomena, and the scientific evidence for such phenomena. In Broughton's review of the book, he noted: "For the academic, this book is copiously annotated, making [it] easy for anyone to check the original reports or follow up on practically any claim the author makes, but the high level of scholarship does not get in the way of a good read."

Entangled Minds once again explores psychic research with an emphasis on what is called quantum entanglement, a physical resource, like energy, that is associated with peculiar nonclassical correlations that are possible between separated quantum systems. In the process, Radin explores the idea of extra sensory perception (ESP) and experiments that the author believes meet strict scientific requirements. He also writes of the theoretical basis for ESP. "This is a fascinating book and is certainly another important contribution to ‘new paradigm’ thinking (and diplomacy) by Dean Radin," wrote a contributor to the Daily Grail Web site. The reviewer went on to note that the author "manages to keep the reader interested by providing thought-provoking ideas, and a number of anecdotes which are sure to surprise."
