SIDELIGHTS: Robin Hazelwood has had a varied professional life. As a child, she qualified for the Olympic Trials for the 100 m breaststroke in both 1984 and 1988 and started a modeling career shortly afterward. She graduated from Yale University in 1992 and continued with her international modeling career until taking up full-time studies at New York University in 1998. After graduating with an M.B.A, Hazelwood worked for an online marketing company for several years before focusing all her attention on writing.

Her first book, Model Student: A Tale of Co-Eds and Cover Girls, introduces Emily, a character who is based in part on Hazelwood herself. Born in Milwaukee and working her way up the modeling ladder, Emily attempts to balance her career with her studies at a top-tier university. Rebecca Vnuk, reviewing the book in the Library Journal, said fans of America’s Next Top Model television show would find this book “just right.” A reviewer in Publishers Weekly called the dialogue “bright and authentic” and noted that Emily “will have readers rooting for her all the way.”
