PERSONAL: Born December 8, 1964, in Sunnyvale, CA; daughter of Owen (a nuclear physicist) and Esther (a computer programmer) Hatcher; married Marcus Leithold, June 4, 1988 (divorced, 1989); married Jon Tenney (an actor), May 27, 1994 (divorced, March, 2003); children: (second marriage) Emerson Rose. Education: Attended De Anza College; trained for the stage at American Conservatory Theater, San Francisco, CA. Hobbies and other interests: Playing golf.

CAREER: Actress. Made television debut in an episode of The Love Boat, 1977; appeared as Penny Parker in the series MacGyver, 1985, as Lois Lane in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and as Susan Mayer in the series Desperate Housewives, beginning 2004; appeared in episodes of other television series. Appeared on stage as Sally Bowles in the touring production of the musical Cabaret, 1999. Gold Rush (cheerleaders for the San Francisco 49ers football team), cheerleader, 1984.

AWARDS, HONORS: Golden Globe Award, lead actress in a comedy series, Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and Screen Actors Guild Award, outstanding female actor in a comedy series, both c. 2005, for Desperate Housewives; two awards, women of the year awards, U.S. television actress of the year and special award, Glamour, 2005; World Actress Award, Women’s World Awards, 2005.
