SIDELIGHTS:

David Lynn Golemon is a former member of the U.S. military's Special Ops section. His 2006 debut novel Event deals with the activities of a top-secret organization known only as the Event Group. Major Jack Collins is recruited for this elite team, which has been in existence since the time of President Lincoln, serving at the behest of the president. Collins's career seemed at a dead end after his testimony before Congress regarding military blunders in Afghanistan. Now, as a member of Event, he investigates the downing of an aircraft by a possible UFO. Soon Collins and his team are involved in a desperate race to save all of humanity. A reviewer for Publishers Weekly found this book a "promising debut," and further observed that the "author's premise offers a rich lode of materials for the inevitable sequels." Similarly, Library Journal reviewer Jeff Ayers felt that "readers who enjoy nonstop action and lots of flying bullets will enjoy Golemon's first book." Higher praise came from Books 'n' Bytes contributor Harriet Klausner, who wrote, "readers will need seatbelts with this faster than light thriller."

On his Web site, Golemon noted the inspiration for his work: "My belief and the subtext of all ‘Event’ novels is that by understanding our past, figuring out our present by understanding our past, makes figuring out our present (and creating a better future) a little easier."
