FIELDS, Beverly 1917-2003

OBITUARY NOTICE—

See index for CA sketch: Born December 7, 1917, in Chicago, IL; died of lung cancer October 3, 2003, in Bethesda, MD. Educator and author. Fields was a former professor of literature at the University of Illinois at Chicago. An alumna of Northwestern University, she did her undergraduate and graduate work there, earning a Ph.D. in 1965. Her teaching career began before that, however, as an instructor of Romantic literature at Lake Forest College in the early 1960s. From 1962 to 1965, she taught at Northwestern University, joining the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1965; she retired in 1985 as an associate professor emeritus. Fields was a frequent contributor of book reviews to newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune, Sun Times, and New York Times, and author of Reality's Dark Dream in Coleridge (1967).
