SIDELIGHTS: David Corio is a London-born photographer whose work has appeared in books and periodicals on both sides of the Atlantic. Corio began to work as a photographer at the age of eighteen, selling his work to magazines in England. Since then his prints have been exhibited in London's Victoria and Albert Museum and have been collected into books. The Black Chord: Visions of the Groove: Connections between Afro-Beats, Rhythm & Blues, Hip-Hop, and More, offers a pictorial history of African American popular music. More recently, Corio's Megaliths: The Ancient Stone Monuments of England and Wales, with text by his wife, Lai Ngan Corio, explores the mysterious standing stones of the United Kingdom, using black-and-white photography that captures the texture and detail of the stones. In Library Journal, Joan W. Garland concluded that Megaliths "captures the grandeur of the megaliths and is a treat for the eye and the imagination." Booklist correspondent Patricia Monaghan found the work "striking and luminous," adding that Corio's presentation and the accompanying information on the various sites "is unusual and rewarding."
