Born July 26, 1871, in Glasgow, Scotland; died March 8, 1959, in the United States; son of John W. and Emma (Gregson) Ashworth; married Mabelle Edgerton, 1902. Education: Columbia University, A.M., 1892, A.M., 1894; Union Theological Seminary, B.D., 1896.

CAREER:

Ordained minister of Northern Baptist Convention, 1896; pastor of Baptist churches in Minerva, NY, 1896-98, Bridgeton, NJ, 1898-1900, Meriden, CT, 1900-11, Milwaukee, WI, 1911-21, and Yonkers, NY, 1921-33; National Conference of Christians and Jews, founding member, 1928, editorial secretary, 1933-c. 1955. Union Theological Seminary, lecturer in Baptist principles and polity, beginning 1931. Milwaukee Federation of Churches, president, 1912; affiliate of Federal Council of Churches; Conference on Faith and Order, delegate to international conferences, 1927, 1937; World Council of Churches, member of American Committee, c. 1938.
