Ashwell (also Ashewell, Hashewell), Thomas

Ashwell (also Ashewell, Hashewell), Thomas, English composer; b. c. 1478; d. after 1513. He was a chorister at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor (1491–93) and a singing clerk at Tattershall Coll., Lincolnshire (1502–03). After serving as Informator cho-ristarum at Lincoln Cathedral (1508), he was canon at Durham Cathedral (1513). His works include the Missa “Ave Maria” and the Missa Jesu Christe (ed. in Early English Church Music, I, 1963, XVI, 1976).
