Žganec, Vinko
Žganec, Vinko, Croatian ethnomusicologist; b. Vratisinci, Jan. 22, 1890; d. Zagreb, Dec. 12, 1976. He studied law at the Univ. of Zagreb (doctorate, 1919). He then became interested in song collecting; traveled in the countryside gathering native melodies. He publ. several albums of harmonizations of these songs and numerous articles in Croatian, German, and American music journals dealing with specific aspects of Croatian songs; in his analyses of their structure, he applied modern methods of ethnomusicology. He was a lecturer on folk music at the Zagreb Academy of Music (1949-68).
