Weldon George

Weldon, George, English conductor; b. Chichester, June 5, 1906; d. Cape Town, South Africa, Aug. 16, 1963. He studied at the Royal Coll. of Music in London with Sargent. He conducted various provincial orchs., and traveled as a guest conductor in North Africa, Turkey, and Yugoslavia. He was conductor of the City of Birmingham Sym. Orch. (1943-51) and second conductor of the Halle Orch. in Manchester under Barbirolli (from 1952); he also conducted the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet in London (1955-56).
