Sym. 1937–9, and other Baltimore organizations 1949–60. Chairman of faculty, Cantors' Inst., NY, from 1952. Teacher at Juilliard Sch. 1957–70, prof. Queens Coll., NY from 1961. Works incl. 9 operas (9 Rivers from Jordan, 6 Characters in Search of an Author, Purgatory, etc.), cantata A Garden Eastward, ballet, songs, radio music.
