Weidinger, Christine

Weidinger, Christine, American soprano; b. Springville, N.Y., March 31, 1946. She studied in Phoenix, Wuppertal, and Los Angeles. In 1972 she won the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions and made her operatic debut in Washington, D.C., as Musetta. On Nov. 24, 1972, she made her Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. as Ortlinde, remaining on its roster until 1976. From 1981 she made appearances in Europe. In 1989 she sang Amendaide in Tancredi in Los Angeles, and then was engaged as Vitellia at Milan’s La Scala and as Lucia in Cincinnati in 1990. Following a return to Los Angeles as Elettra and Fiordiligi in 1991, she sang Maria Stuarda in Barcelona in 1992 and in Monte Carlo in 1993. In 1995 she portrayed Donna Anna in Santiago and Elettra at the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff. She sang Elisabeth in Don Carlos in Buenos Aires in 1998.
