Viotti, Marcello

Viotti, Marcello, Italian conductor; b. Vallorbe, June 29, 1954. He received training at the Lausanne Cons. In 1981 he took 1stprize in the Gino Martinuzzi Competition in San Remo. He was permanent guest conductor of the Teatro Regio in Turin from 1985 to 1987. From 1987 to 1990 he was artistic director of the Lucerne Opera. He was Generalmusikdirektor in Bremen from 1990 to 1993. In 1991 he became chief conductor of the Saarland Radio Sym. Orch. in Saarbrücken and was named to the post of 1stguest conductor of the Vienna State Opera. He concurrently served as 1stguest conductor of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and permanent guest conductor of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich from 1993. In 1998 he became music director of the Munich Radio Orch.
