Vengerov, Maxim

Vengerov, Maxim, accomplished Russian violinist; b. Novosibirsk, Aug. 15, 1974. He was a student of Zakhar Bron. After making his formal debut in a recital in Moscow in 1985, he played throughout Russia; soon began to tour abroad in Western Europe. After winning the Flesch competition in London in 1990, he made his U.S. debut as soloist with the N.Y. Phil.; in subsequent years, appeared as a soloist with the principal orchs. of the globe and as a recitalist in the leading music centers. His playing is marked by an extraordinary virtuoso technique.
