Treadwell, George (McKinley)
Treadwell, George (McKinley), jazz trumpeter; b. New Rochelle, N.Y., Dec. 21, 1919; d. N.Y., May 14, 1967. He worked in house band at Monroe’s Uptown House in N.Y. during the early 1940s, then toured with Benny Carter (1942-43), Cootie Williams (late 1943-early 1946), and J. C. Heard (1946-47). During this period married Sarah Vaughan and toured with her in the U.S. and overseas as musical director. They were subsequently divorced but Treadwell carried on with managerial duties during the 1950s. When that arrangement ended he became an A&R man in the record business, and also had some success as a songwriter.
