Törne, Bengt (Axel) Von, Finnish composer; b. Helsinki, Nov. 22, 1891; d. Turku, May 4, 1967. He studied composition with Furuhjelm at the Helsinki Inst. of Music (1910-16) and orchestration with Sibelius (1916-17). He wrote 6 syms. (1935-66), 3 sinfoniettas, Sinfonia da camera for Strings (1951), Piano Concerto, Piano Quintet, 2 string quartets, 2 violin sonatas, and a Piano Trio. He publ. a monograph on Sibelius (London, 1937; in Italian, Florence, 1943; in Finnish, Helsinki, 1945; in Swedish, Stockholm, 1945) and an autobiography (Borga, 1945).
