Timmermans, Ferdinand
Timmermans, Ferdinand, Dutch organist and carillonneur; b. Rotterdam, Sept. 7, 1891; d. Oostenrijk, July 8, 1967. He studied organ with J.H. Besselaar and H. de Vries. In 1924 he became the municipal carillonneur at Rotterdam, and in 1926, at Schiedam. He subsequently gave exhibitions in Belgium, France, and England; soon he won the reputation of being one of the world’s greatest carillonneurs. On May 5, 1954, he gave a concert in Washington, D.C., playing on the 50-bell carillon presented to the U.S. by the people of the Netherlands. He publ. Luidklokken en beiaarden in Nederland (Amsterdam, 1944).
