Teagarden, Charlie (actually, Charles; aka Little T)
Teagarden, Charlie (actually, Charles; aka Little T), jazz trumpeter, brother of Jack Teagarden; b. Vernon, Tex., July 19, 1913; d. Las Vegas, Dec. 10, 1984. He was a sterling player overshadowed by his brother Jack, with whom he worked in 1936 and at various times from 1940 through 1951. Beginning in 1929, he worked with Ben Pollack, Red Nichols, Paul Whiteman (most of the period 1933-40), Jimmy Dorsey (on and off from 1948 until 1950), and Bob Crosby (regularly 1954-58). Teagarden did studio work in Hollywood during the 1950s, then freelanced and led his own bands in Las Vegas from about 1960 on. He retired from playing to become an executive in the musicians’ union there in the mid-1960s.
