Tag, Christian Gotthilf

Tag, Christian Gotthilf, German organist and composer; b. Beierfeld, April 2, 1735; d. Niederzwönitz, near Zwönitz, June 19, 1811. From 1749 to 1755 he studied at the Kreuzschule in Dresden, and from 1755 to 1808 he was cantor at Hohenstein-Ernstthal. He wrote a large body of Kantorenmusik, winning especial esteem for his lieder and keyboard pieces.

6 chorale preludes for Organ (1783); 12 preludes and a Sym. for Organ (1794); songs (1783, 1785, 1793, 1798); 70 variations for Piano on an Andantino (1784); Der Glaube, melody with Organ (1793); Urians Reise um die Welt and Urians Nachricht von der Aufklärung (1797); Naumann, ein Todtenopfer (1803; Voice with Piano); Melodie zum Vaterunser und den Einsetzungsworten (1803; with Organ); Wörlitz, an ode (1803; Voice with Piano); many sacred and instrumental works in MS.
