Swingle, Ward (b Mobile, Ala., 1927). Amer. conductor and arranger. Career as solo pianist and accomp. 1953–5. Cond. Ballets de Paris 1955–9. Founded Swingle Singers 1963, giving about 2,000 concerts throughout world 1963–91 and taking part in works by Berio, some of which were comp. for them. Made over 100 arrs. for Swingle Singers.
