Stryker, Dave (actually, David Michael)

Stryker, Dave (actually, David Michael), jazz guitarist; b. Omaha, Nebr., March 30, 1957. Stryker grew up in Nebr. and moved to N.Y. in 1980. After studying with Billy Rogers and freelancing, he joined Jack McDuff’s group, touring the U.S. and Canada (1984-85). He played with Stanley Turrentine (1986-95), performing at all the major festivals, concert halls, and clubs throughout the world, and with guests Dizzy Gillespie and Freddie Hubbard. Stryker’s 1991 album, Guitar on Top, reached #13 on the Gavin Radio Chart. He has been awarded three jazz grants from the N.E.A., toured Japan and Europe with Kevin Mahogany, and continues working with his own group. A featured sideman on many releases, Stryker produced The Guitar Artistry of Billy Rogers and co-produced A Tribute to Grant Green.
