Stratas, Teresa [ Strataki, Anastasia] (b Toronto, 1938). Canadian soprano of Gr. parentage. As a child sang in father's restaurant. Opera début Toronto 1958 (Mimì in La bohème). Won NY Met opera auditions 1959, making her début at Met in Oct. 1959; CG début 1961; Salzburg Fest. début 1969. Excellent Mozart singer in roles such as Despina. Sang Lulu in f. complete p. of opera, Paris 1979. Also an impressive Salome and specialist in mus. of Weill. Created Marie Antoinette in The Ghosts of Versailles, NY Met 1991.
