Siefert, Paul
Siefert, Paul, German organist and composer; b. Danzig, June 28, 1586; d. there, May 6, 1666. He studied with Sweelinck in Amsterdam (1607–09), and then returned to Danzig as asst. organist at the Marienkirche. After serving as organist of the principal church in the Altstadt in Königsberg (1611–16) and as court organist in Warsaw (1616–23), he returned to Danzig as principal organist at the Marienkirche, a position he retained for the rest of his life. He publ. 5 vols, of sacred vocal music (1640–51). Among his instrumental works were Canzona a 8 in Psalmorum (1651) and several chorale variations.
