Secunde, Nadine

Secunde, Nadine, American soprano; b. Independence, Ohio, Dec. 21, 1953. She studied at the Oberlin Coll.-Cons. of Music, with Margaret Harshaw at the Ind. Univ. School of Music in Bloomington, and in Germany as a Fulbright scholar. From 1980 to 1985 she was a member of the Wiesbaden State Theater. In 1985 she made her debut as K´t’a Kabanov´; at the Cologne Opera, where she remained as a principal member. She sang Elsa at the Bayreuth Festival in 1987, and returned there in 1988 as Sieglinde in the Ring cycle. In 1988 she appeared as Elsa at London’s Covent Garden and as Elisabeth at the Lyric Opera in Chicago. She portrayed Berlioz’s Cassandre in Los Angeles in 1991. In 1994 she sang Elisabeth in Munich, returning there in 1997 to sing in the premiere of Henze’s Venus und Adonis. Her other roles include Agathe, Chrysothemis, and Ariadne.
