Sebestyén, János
Sebestyén, János, esteemed Hungarian harpsichordist, organist, and pedagogue; b. Budapest, March 2, 1931. He was an organ pupil of Ferenc Gergely at the Budapest Academy of Music (graduated, 1956). He toured as a harpsichord and organ virtuoso in Europe, the U.S., and the Far East. He was founder-director of the harpsichord dept. at the Budapest Academy of Music (from 1970). In 1982 he was made a Merited Artist by the Hungarian government. In 1983, 1988, and 1993 he served as president of the jury of the Liszt International Organ Competition in Budapest.
