Scarabelli, Diamante Maria

Scarabelli, Diamante Maria, Italian soprano who flourished from 1695 to 1718. She was born in Bologna, where she first gained distinction (1696–97; 1699; 1700; 1708–09; 1718). She also made many appearances in Venice (1695; 1703; 1707–12; 1714–16), and sang in Milan (1699), Pavia and Genoa (1705), Ferrara (1715), and Padua (1718). She was in the service of the Duke of Mantua (1697–1708), Cardinal Grimani, Viceroy of Naples (1709), and the Duke of Modena (1715). Scarabelli was greatly esteemed for her roles in operas by Caldara, Handel, Lotti, Orlandini, and C.F. Pollarolo.
