Robinson, Michael Finlay
Robinson, Michael Finlay , English musicologist; b. Gloucester, March 3, 1933. He was educated at the Univ. of Oxford (B.A., 1956; B.Mus., 1957; M.A., 1960; Ph.D., 1963, with the diss. Neapolitan Opera, 1700–1780). He taught at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music in Glasgow (1960–61), the Univ. of Durham (1961–65), and McGill Univ. in Montreal (1965–70). In 1970 he joined the faculty of the Univ. of Wales Coll. in Cardiff, where he was senior lecturer (1975–91) and prof. (1991–94), and head of the music dept. (1987–94). He publ. Opera Before Mozart (1966), Naples and Neapolitan Opera (1972), and a thematic catalog of the works of Paisiello (2 vols., 1990, 1993).
