Remoortel, Edouard van
Remoortel, Edouard van , Belgian conductor; b. Brussels, May 30, 1926; d. Paris, May 16, 1977. He studied at the Brussels Cons. and at the Geneva Cons.; also took courses in conducting with Guarnieri and Galliera at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and privately with Josef Krips. From 1951 he was the principal conductor of the Orchestre National de Belgique in Brussels, hi 1958 he was appointed music director of the St. Louis Sym. Orch., retaining this post until 1962. In 1965 he went to Monte Carlo as artistic consultant to the Orchestre National de l’Opera of Monaco, resigning in 1969.
