Přihoda, Váša

Přihoda, Váša , noted Czech violinist and teacher; b. Vodnany, Aug. 22, 1900; d. Vienna, July 26, 1960. He received his first instruction from his father, a professional violinist. He made his public debut at the age of 12 in Prague, and in 1920 he went on an Italian tour. In 1921 he appeared in the U.S., and in 1927 played in England; then gave recitals throughout Europe. He continued to concertize after the absorption of Austria and Czechoslovakia into the Nazi Reich, and was briefly charged with collaboration with the occupying powers. He eventually resumed his career, and later became a prof. at the Vienna Academy of Music.
